On Friday, March 29th, an educational program took place with the Museum Kit “Traveling with Ioannis Capodistrias” from the Capodistrias Museum for the students of the 2nd Grade of the 5th Gymnasium of Trikala.
Through the museum kit, the life and work of the eminent European politician and First Governor of Greece, Ioannis Capodistrias, were unfolded. Using archival material, reproductions of artworks, letters, and copies of objects from the Museum’s collection, students became acquainted with his personality, his political acumen, his foresight, and his activities in relation to the European/Greek political scene of that era. They traveled to his birthplace, Corfu, to 19th-century Europe, and to Tsarist Russia, while learning about the significant reforms he promoted for the restructuring of the newly established Greek state and the events that led to his assassination in 1831 by the Mavromichalis family.
We thank the 5th Gymnasium of Trikala for their collaboration, as well as the Kapodistrias Museum for lending the Museum Kit.
