The Library welcomed on Thursday, November 21, 2024, the 3rd-grade students of the 1st Primary School of Kalambaka for a unique educational workshop based on the Museum of Tactile’s Museum Kit.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness among children about the daily life of individuals with blindness and to familiarize them with tools and methods that facilitate their lives.
The participants began with an introductory session, learning about the challenges faced by visually impaired individuals and the strategies they develop to overcome them.
Through experiential activities, the children had the opportunity to understand the world of visual impairment. In one activity, blindfolded, they were tasked with reaching a predefined point, either with the help of a guide or by using a special white cane. They also learned about Braille, the writing and reading system for the visually impaired, and tried reading and writing their names using it.
This initiative offered a unique experience for the students, enhancing their empathy and promoting the understanding of diversity and inclusion.
