The speech by educator Mr. Dimitris I. Konstantinidis at the Library took place

On Thursday, April 25th, we had the joy and honor of hosting educator Mr. Dimitris I. Konstantinidis at the Library, who delivered a speech on the invasion of German and Italian troops in Kalambaka in 1941.

Mr. Konstantinidis presented unpublished material to the audience, which he gathered after years of research, analyzing in detail the timeline of the invasion and occupation of Kalambaka, initially by the Germans (April 1941) and later by the Italians (June 1941). He discussed the action of the Allied force, approximately 25,000 English, Australians, and New Zealanders, who remained in our city from April 12th to 18th, 1941, attempting to stand by the Greek army against Hitler’s forces. On April 18th, 1941, Good Friday, German motorcyclists entered the city of Kalambaka; the harsh period of the Occupation began…

Following the conclusion of the speech, a discussion with the audience ensued, as testimonies and photographs “awakened” somber memories for our fellow citizens who lost their lives during the war.

We sincerely thank Mr. Konstantinidis for accepting the invitation and honoring us with his presence.
