About the Book

The thread of life, wrapped in thorns and pain, unexpectedly joins two boys together in one of Queen Frederica’s child camps, Ziros. Foris and Dionysis must endure difficult times in Greece. Two terrified children, they come to know harsh overseers and team leaders, far from the safety of their mothers’ embrace. They become blood brothers and try, together, to survive the stifling environment. Fotis becomes a wilding and his life is marked with escapes, unfinished thoughts, a love and hate for his mother and a questioning of life itself. The children become lost in time however life hasn’t had its final say… In a unique journey through the modern history of Greece, during the years of the monarchy, the dictatorship and the change of polity, this is a true and heartbreaking story told through the eyes of the wilding of Epirus, a story that will stir even the most reticent reader.
