The Reading Club honors World Poetry Day with a representative poem <\/p>\n\n\n\n
World Poetry Day is celebrated every year on March 21 and is a purely Greek initiative. Its initial inspiration belongs to the Greek poet Michael Mitras, who in the autumn of 1997 proposed to the Society of Writers that the celebration of poetry be adopted in Greece, as in other countries, and that a specific day be set for it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Poetry is the “sound” of the soul and many times with the right notes (set to music), the lyrics acquire another dimension and we feel the words dancing in our hearts! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the occasion of this day, the literary reading club of the Kalambaka Library chose to honor (for the 100th anniversary of his birth) the poet Manolis Anagnostakis, one of the most complex and multifaceted personalities of our post-war literature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A poet, critic and an intellectual, he showed us through his lyrics the deceitful nature of self-deception, he taught us that morality hates bigotry, excessive gestures, many words. Anagnostakis’ poetry redefined the very concept of lyricism in poetry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The multifaceted dimension of his contribution to our letters is proven by the important awards and honors bestowed upon him: In 1986 he was awarded the First Prize for Poetry for his work “The Poems 1941-1971”. In 1995, the Order of the Commander of the Phoenix from the Hellenic Republic. In 1997 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2002 he was awarded the Grand State Prize for Literature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Composers such as Mikis Theodorakis, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Dimitris Papadimitriou and Michalis Grigoriou have set several of his poems to music, while his works have been translated into English, French, German and Italian. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our club quotes a representative poem of his, so timeless and topical, about the duty of the poet and every person to defend the light and to be in constant antinomy with the darkness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
