Three seminars targeting professional breeders will be organized by the AFS Vocational Training School starting mid-November 2019 to early March 2020 entitled &#8220;Experiential training and counseling for professional breeders&#8221;.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The themes are related to the implementation of good management practices in cattle, sheep and goats, as well as animal welfare leading to better quality of primary production. In addition, a specialized experiential seminar will be implemented for graduates of last year&#8217;s seminar focused on genetic improvement, plant and livestock hygiene, ration calculation, shepherd management and equipment selection. Each group will be compiled of 15 breeders, who will attend the training for free.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The training is expected to begin on 14 November 2019 and the teaching and counseling program will last 48-54 hours over an eight-month period, so that the training of breeders is naturally linked to the annual livestock cycle and the challenges they face in each productive stage.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Note that those who will provide specialized consulting support at the participants&#8217; premises are agronomists-veterinarians and experts in the American Farm School&#8217;s livestock industry.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>It is important to emphasize that ruminant farming (sheep and goats) is extremely important for the economy, food supply and empowerment of rural areas in the Mediterranean basin, especially in mountainous and border areas. The program, which is run by the Kalambaka Library and the American School of Agriculture, aims to help: (a) the local livestock community, a core of the wider agricultural structure of the Kalambaka region, by implementing the best sustainable livestock management practices and (b) the wider livestock sector for the production, development and improvement of meat and dairy products in the region; providing a strategic framework for optimally positioning the region and diversifying it with competition.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>More information and applications for participation in the program: Fotini Kefala (2310492850) and Theopi Katsiamani (2432023044).<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year, the American Farm School will continue to co-operate with the Kalambaka Library, which is run by NGO KDK.
