Kastania tells its story through the Library’s oral history program

On Thursday, August 21, the Library continued its oral history program “Tell Your Story” with a special visit to Kastania, Kalabaka. The aim of the program is to preserve and highlight valuable personal stories, testimonies, and photographic material that make up the richness of collective memory and local tradition.

During their visit to the village, the Library’s collaborators recorded six unique testimonies. Through them, pages of Kastania’s history came to life: the painful memories of the Holocaust of the 1940s, as well as glimpses of everyday life in the years that followed — work and professions, school life, celebrations, and social events that brought vitality to the community.

These narratives are not only a moving return to the past; they also serve as a living legacy, reinforcing the Library’s mission to safeguard and promote the region’s intangible cultural heritage.

We warmly thank Mrs. Evangelia Papagianni, Mr. Tilemachos Tzimas, Mr. Sotirios Papagiannis, Mr. Christos Koffas, Mr. Aristeidis Koffas, and Mr. Alexandros Papagiannis for their invaluable contribution to this collective effort.
