On Thursday, August 7, colleagues from the Library visited the village of Kastania as part of the “Oral Testimonies” program.
The aim of the program is to collect, record, and preserve personal narratives and photographic material relating to local history and folklore, in order to create a rich and reliable repository of testimonies.
A particularly special oral account in the form of a travelogue was shared with us by Mr. Simos Kousaitis, who recounted memories of life in Kastania during the 1960s–1980s. He described the conditions of daily life, the professions practiced at the time, the school environment, childhood games, and the social life of the village.
This testimony was not only a journey into the past, but also an important contribution to the Library’s mission to safeguard and showcase the region’s intangible cultural heritage.
We would like to warmly thank Mr. Simos Kousaitis for his invaluable testimony and the President of the village, Mr. Giorgos Koffas.
