As part of the “Oral Histories” program, a new interview was conducted with Mr. Anastasios Basaras, a retired officer of the Hellenic Air Force. The initiative aims to record and preserve valuable personal experiences and historical testimonies that shed light on aspects of modern Greek history and enrich our collective memory.
During the interview, Mr. Basaras reflected on daily life, living conditions, as well as the customs and traditions of local society in post-war Greece, vividly illustrating how social relationships and the values of the era were formed. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of human bonds, the crucial role of educators in shaping young people, and the principles and values fostered within the family environment.
The political developments of 1967 held a prominent place in his narrative, which he approached through his own firsthand experience as a young officer. His personal testimony offered a particularly significant perspective on the historical context of that period, highlighting the conditions and events that marked contemporary Greek history.
The interview concluded with recollections of his experiences in the countries where he lived and worked, capturing the various cultural influences he absorbed and the changes he observed in societies and ways of life over time.
