The online lecture titled “Artificial Intelligence and the Greatness of Human Intelligence” was successfully held on Friday, June 5th. The event took place within the framework of the “Artificial Intelligence – Year 2026” program, implemented by the Kalambaka Library and the Association of Greek Librarians and Information Scientists (EEBEP).
The keynote speaker was Dr. Vasilios Petrouleas, Physicist and former Director of Research at the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos.” Dr. Petrouleas presented the evolution of Artificial Intelligence from early conversational systems to modern language models, examining both their capabilities and limitations.
In the second part of his presentation, he highlighted the uniqueness of human intelligence, focusing on consciousness, ethics, creativity, and free will—elements that continue to differentiate humans from machines.
The lecture offered participants a meaningful opportunity for information and reflection on AI developments and its relationship with humanity, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking in the modern digital age.
