The activities of the Summer Reading and Creativity Campaign 2024, organized by the National Library, continue this week. On Monday, July 8th, the workshop “Science is Everywhere!” took place, aimed at encouraging children to think critically, formulate hypotheses, draw conclusions, and experiment with simple materials.
After discussing the work of famous scientists such as Archimedes, Einstein, and Nikola Tesla, we conducted our own experiments on Archimedes’ Principle, which states that liquids exert a force on any object submerged in them, called buoyancy. We experimented with eggs, lemons, and limes, observing whether and why they sink. Then, we made a wind vane to observe the direction of the wind and the rotations it makes. The more rotations, the higher the wind speed. The children were thrilled with the process and ran to the yard to test their homemade wind vane!
The next workshop will take place on Tuesday, July 9th at 12:00 PM.
