On Sunday, February 11th, the 3 days screening of the movie “Children with Suitcases: Scenes of Migration” was over, causing intense emotion among the audience. The film addresses the phenomenon of migration in the 1960s in Germany, specifically in Nuremberg. “Children with Suitcases” is a literary term used to describe the children of first-generation immigrants who constantly moved back and forth between their homeland and the host country with a suitcase in hand.
The film evoked a deep emotional response from the audience, as many identified with the protagonists, either because they themselves or members of their families experienced the challenges of migration and resettlement.
Following the screening, director Mr. Grigoris Nikiforidis and contributors to the film engaged in a discussion with the audience about contemporary issues related to the film’s themes, such as migration, the integration of refugees into the host country, homeland, and humanity.
We would like to thank the Greek Artistic Club of Nuremberg for their collaboration and Hotel Kaikis for the director’s accommodation.
