On April 23, 1616, two great names of letters died: the Spanish writer Don Quixote Miguel de Cervantes and the English playwright William Shakespeare. On the occasion of this double event, UNESCO has established April 23 as World Book Day.
World Book Day was celebrated with special honors in Greece in 2018, when Athens was the World Book Capital.
This year, for the first time since 1925, no international exhibition will be held to celebrate the event due to Covid-19.
The Library continues to hold a plethora of teleconferences with authors bringing you closer to literature and books.
