On Friday, October 20, an educational activity was held with the Book Kit of the Aikaterinis Laskaridis Foundation “Asia Minor Disaster, 1922: Knowing the history through literature, art, games” with the students of the 3rd grade of the Kalambaka 2nd High School.
The purpose of the activity was for the students to understand the historical events and learn the disastrous consequences of the Convention for the Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations, also known as the Lausanne Convention, signed in 1923. First, they watched videos on the persecution and the Destruction of Smyrna, which included oral testimonies of refugees, and then, a passage was read from the book “Meli ki Melek” by the author Vanas Mavridou, in which the feelings of the children who experienced the tragic event of forced expatriation.
Then they played a board game about the struggle for survival, following the routes of thousands of mentally and physically wounded Asia Minors to new homelands, who tried to keep historical memory alive.
