The Kalambaka Library is launching a partnership with the American Farm School to develop an educational program aimed at farmers in the wider Kalambaka region and will be implemented by the AFS of Vocational Training. It has the title: Experiential education and counseling program for professional breeders and concerns two groups: (a) sheep and goat farmers; and (b) cattle breeders. For each group of the program, 15 breeders will be selected, who will attend the training free of charge.
The program is expected to begin in the first weeks of November and will be completed over the course of 40-45 hours over a period of eight months so that the training of stock farmers is naturally linked to the annual livestock cycle and the challenges they face in each productive stage.
Emphasis will be placed on: practical methods of management of the herd or flock, reproduction and genetic improvement aimed at improving productivity, nutrition and preparation of rations, assessment and production costs, disease prevention and animal hygiene, as well as recording production log data.
Upon completion of the program, a breeder from each group will receive – following evaluation – a full scholarship (for the academic year starting in the autumn of 2019) to attend the integrated farm management program at the IEK of the American Farm School.
