On Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., we will have the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Irko Apostolidi, who will deliver a speech titled “Alexander the Great: The Figure in the Balance of History…”.
Biography:
Historian and author, Irkos Apostolidis, along with his father Renos[1988-2011] and his brother Stantis, translated and commented on the classic six-volume work of the German historian J. G. Droysen, The History of Alexander the Great’s Successors, which won the award of the Academy of Athens (2012).
Later, he, along with Stantis, engaged with Great Alexander’s history sources and published the work: Megas Alexandros: I Protes Piges. Apospasmata ton Archaion Istorikon [Alexander the Great – The First Sources. Excerpts from Ancient Historians] which received the Greek State Award for the translation of an ancient text and the award of the Academy of Athens (2015).
Furthermore, the three philologist-authors also published an annotated edition of all the works of C. Cavafys, and of Georgios Vizyinos.
Irkos, in recent years, has been translating and commenting on works primarily by Nietzsche and Ibsen.
