On Sunday, February 11, at 5 pm, the Kalambakas Library will screen Grigoris Nikiforidis’s film “The Children with the Suitcase. Scenes of an Ιmmigration”.

It is about four interwoven stories about the Greeks’ migration in the last 50 years to Nuremberg: A young couple – suffering from the financial crisis – leaves the Greek countryside. A doctor wants to make a career. A family finds temporary shelter with relatives in Nuremberg and fights for a better future. And two “guest workers” remember their arrival in Nuremberg.

“Suitcase children” is a literary term used to characterize the migration phenomenon of the 1960s. Suitcase children were the children of guest workers who moved back and forth between home and foreign country: once to visit their parents in Germany and then back again to their grandparents in the homeland. Because of their frequent movements they always had a suitcase in hand.

Four generations already live in Nuremberg and the fifth is growing up. They are all part of the script.
