On Tuesday, December 8 at 8:00 pm, Dr. Maria Schoina, Associate Professor of the English Language Department and Literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in English Romanticism and Gothic Literature, will make an introduction to Mary Shelley’s book, Frankenstein. Specifically, Ms. Schoina will refer to the history of the conception and writing of the book, will discuss the timelessness of the myth of Frankenstein and his “monster” in popular culture and will follow an excerpt from the classic work. Mary Shelley’s masterpiece although it was published in 1818, seems to be more relevant than ever, as it touches on issues of science, medicine, and psychoanalysis. Discussions about the miracle of life and references to artificial intelligence are increasing.
