“Twelve years away from his family. Away from the mainland, from his loved ones but also from their forgotten faces. His home is now ATHOS III. The place where he confronts his memories. The shelter where he keeps his secrets tightly sealed. The only place from which he can and does watch his silent course being carved in his absence; his loneliness with the swell: the silent ripples of the ocean…”
The beloved author’s Ioanna Karystiani book, Swell, is the topic of the next meeting for the Trikala Detention Center Reading Club that will take place on Friday, October 15th. The play won the State Novel Award in 2007 and tells the story of the captain Dimitris Augustis, who is twelve years away from home. Despite the urging of his family, he refuses to leave the ship and go back to his family, an attitude that his own people take for granted, but no coin has only one side.
At the meeting, the members, after having studied the book, will have the opportunity to chat online with the author and express views, ideas and feelings that the book brought up.
We thank the excellent author for accepting our invitation. We would also like to thank Kastaniotis Publications for donating the copies to the members of the Club.
