“The world is a heavy place to bear, but for a little pride it was worth it.” (Odysseus Elytis) The poet’s Odysseas Elytis work is the subject of the Adults’ Reading Club next meeting, which will take place on Thursday, April 15 at 6:30 pm.

On the occasion of the anniversary of his death on March 18, the members decided to make a tribute to the Nobel Prize-winning poet. He is one of the most important Greek authors, belongs to the literary generation of the ’30s, while in 1979 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, the highest recognition for a poet. His rich work is a valuable legacy for Greece; The Axion Esti is one of the masterpieces of 20th century poetry.

Ms. Anna Mykoniou, President and CEO of the Cultural Center of the Region of Central Macedonia, is invited to the meeting to talk about the the beloved poet’s work.  Ms. Mykoniou studied French Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, completed her postgraduate studies in contemporary literature and contemporary art in Paris, and then wrote her doctoral dissertation on contemporary poetry in the 20th century.
