In this workshop, we journey into the imaginative world of popular folk literature—stories filled with mystery, passion, dreams, fate, and unexpected twists. Through selected excerpts, vintage covers, and illustrations from old magazines and books, children will discover a magical yet revealing world that reflected (and shaped) the society of its time.

Then, through experiential activities and open discussion, participants will uncover how many of the beliefs we carry today are rooted in old superstitions and popular lore. Black cats, the “evil eye,” unlucky numbers and strange symbols, everyday phrases and expressions we use without a second thought—all come under the microscope with imagination and humor!

Workshop Objectives:

  • To introduce children to popular folk literature as a cultural phenomenon and part of folk heritage.

  • To help them identify and recognize superstitions and traditional beliefs that still influence our everyday lives.

  • To encourage critical thinking about how our beliefs are formed and passed down.

  • To inspire exploration of the power of stories and imagination through creative expression.
