The Library members had the opportunity to get to know the Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Vytoumas, one of the most characteristic and remarkable monuments of the Kalambaka region. The monastery is approached from the eastern slopes of Koziakas in a magnificent landscape. Arriving at the courtyard of the Monastery, we meet the Chapel dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, which in its founding inscription is referred to as propylaion. In the center of the precinct is the katholikon of the Monastery, which is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a three–aisled Basilica with an elevated central aisle. The painted decoration and its wood–carved iconostasis of remarkable art, as well as the portable icons of the monastery, are the works of the well-known hagiographer Drosinos from Fanari, Karditsa. The nun of the Monastery gave information about the foundation and operation of the Monastery.
