Istorima: I support the future by recording the past
The invitation of Istorima researchers for the prefectures of Trikala, Larissa, Magnesia and Karditsa has been opened and invites young people aged 18–35, who love their country and its people, to record its stories.
Istorima is a civil–non–profit company, with the aim of creating an Oral History Archive of Greece, through the offer of 9 months of paid employment to hundreds of young people throughout the country. For the next 4 years, Istorima will train 1500 researchers from every prefecture of the country to record oral histories from their place of origin. So far, 293 researchers from Attica, Northern Greece, the Peloponnese, Crete and the Aegean islands have collected over 6000 stories.
Istorima‘s researchers collect narratives and stories, old and modern, from various historical periods and from a range of topics. They motivate their family members, friends and residents of their community to share their own narrative so that their stories are not lost. The stories will be preserved in an Archive accessible to the public, while selected ones will be uploaded to the www.istorima.org website in podcast, video and written format.
The founders of the project are the historian and Provost of New York University (NYU) Katherine Fleming and the journalist Sofia Papaioannou. Istorima is implemented with a founding grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and is part of the SNF‘s initiative to Restart and Empower Youth.
