[Swell] by Ioanna Karystiani, a deeply moving and optimistic book, was the topic of the Trikala Penitentiary Book Club meetiing, which took place on Friday, October 15th.
The members had the opportunity to talk with the author of the work Ioanna Karystiani, who explained that the purpose of this book is to give, in an era of cruelty and cynicism, the beauty of the human soul and true relationships. While the book begins with intense problems for the protagonists, such as alienation, anger, lack of understanding, isolation, as the plot progresses and the emotion peaks, redemption, absolute love and forgiveness occur.
Swell for sailors is the silent wave of the ocean, but for all it can also be the silent pain in the soul of people that comes like a wave; the inner journey of all from one state to another. Bitterness, feelings, experiences, everything that every person carries in his life and can seduce him.
Extremely excited, Ms. Karystiani referred to the period of writing the play and her long conversations with sailors, in order to be able to convey their truth. Life truths that we all face, but we have to believe in ourselves and “travel” with the swell in a life as we have dreamed.
