On Monday morning, May 23rd, the students of the 6th grade of the 1st Elementary School of Kalambaka had the pleasure to chat online with an author who has left her mark on modern Greek children’s literature, Mrs.Loti Petrovits-Androutsopoulou.
The students had previously studied texts by the award-winning author and as a result they had many questions about the themes and heroes of her books. Mrs Petrovic talked to the children, answered their questions and talked about the influence of war, occupation, fear and deprivation on her and her writing career. She confessed that she began to create her own stories from her childhood to keep her company in the difficult everyday life she lived. All these elements are reflected in her autobiographical short stories, but also in her entire body of work. She did not fail to mention her work in the Greek mission of the International Organization for Migration for the protection of migrants and refugees, the knowledge she gained and the experiences she had during the years she served in this organization. She stressed that many of her books deal with issues of racism and refugees, are inspired by what she has seen and experienced and reflect what she believes from experience.
Finally, Mrs Petrovic spoke about her love for literature and advised the children to continue reading because the development of imagination is very important for their whole later life.
We thank Mrs Petrovits-Androutsopoulou for the pleasure of talking to her, and Pataki Publications for the cooperation.
