The speeches–presentations of Mr. Iliopoulos, Vice–Chairman of the Board of Directors of KDK, were completed with great success on September 7 and 8, 2016, at the Kalambaka Library. On Wednesday, September 7, Mr. Iliopoulos gave a speech on “The Human Diaspora, a short history of 150 thousand years“.
During his speech, he presented the developments regarding our genetic origin, spoke of “lost relatives“ in unlikely places we did not expect, but also of the discoveries of anthropologists, which enlightened us even more, where we assumed we knew everything. The audience that attended the event was thrilled with the breadth of the scientific field presented, the comprehensiveness of the presentation, the realistic approach to the subject, but also the contagiousness and scientific training of the speaker.
On Thursday, September 8, at 12:00 p.m., a talk on “Between the Kingdom of Fear and the Foggy Sky: A Journey to the Yucatan Peninsula, in Search of the Mayans in the Jungle and Underground Rivers“ was given to elementary and middle school students. During the speech, photos from the speaker‘s travels to Mexico were presented and the life and culture of the Mayans were analyzed, in a way that is pleasant and understandable by the youngest ages. Afterwards, the director of the library, Mrs. Magda Vassiliou, and the staff explained to the young viewers the ways they can search for information both in the library and on the internet, as well as the evaluation criteria of the websites, so that this information is valid. The event ended with the design of Mayan ideograms, on pebbles, by the children themselves. In the afternoon of the same day, at 18:00, this presentation was repeated, enriched and adapted to be aimed at adults.
Once again the audience was thrilled and the comments that followed were praiseworthy. Both this speech and the previous ones ended with a discussion and exchange of views and concerns between the attendees.
