On the afternoon of Thursday, December 3rd, a teleconference was held with the astrophysicist and honorary director of the Eugenides Planetarium, Mr. Dionysios Simopoulos on the subject of “The Revelation of the Universe“.
Mr. Simopoulos spoke about the “portrait“ of the universe and the constant effort of astronomers to explore the magical and enigmatic world of the sky and give answers to the unknown that surrounds us. Mr. Simopoulos answered the participants‘ questions about planetary systems and the possibility of life on the planet Mars or other planets. Questions were also raised about whether and when the earth will cease to exist, while Mr. Simopoulos‘ answer to existential issues was characteristic: “We are stardust; We come and go back to the stars“.
The teleconference was attended by institutions from almost all parts of Greece, such as the National Observatory of Athens, the Penteli Observatory, the Ionian University and the General Archives of the State of Prefecture of Magnesia, while the number of participants from domestic, abroad and Cyprus exceeded all expectations.
The event was also attended by the President of the Library, Mrs. Katerina – Diana Dimoula – Merriam and the Vice President Mr. Apostolos Iliopoulos, who addressed a brief greeting to the public. We would like to thank Mr. Dionysios Simopoulos for the pleasure and honor of being with us, even online, as well as all institutions and individuals for their participation in such an interesting speech.
