Trikala Detention Center

The collaboration with the Trikala Detention Center and the Second Chance Schools began within the framework of the Library’s outreach and the excellent services to people held in custody and have not completed compulsory secondary education.

Two educational programs have been held so far at the Trikala Detention Center for the Second Chance School students. The first concerned the Book Club creation and the second a 3D Scanning and Printing Laboratory.

The purpose of the Book Club was to cultivate a love of reading and a sense of belonging to a group. The meetings started in April 2021 and were held online. The major Greek publishing houses’ contribution to the implementation of the program was valuable, as they supported the action with book donations. The Book Club started with 8 members and in a short time consisted of 18.

The group was formed with individuals of different ages, nationalities and cultures who exchanged views, utilizing their time constructively.

The authors of the selected titles for studying were also invited to the meetings, offering participants the opportunity to discuss with the creators.

The aim of the 3D scanning and printing workshop was to familiarize students with the advanced prototyping technology, the increasing application fields, and the cost and variety of printing materials. Students were trained in scanning objects, designing and editing 3D models through special programs.

The workshop allowed students to explore their creativity, understand new technologies, and develop skills that they will probably use in their reintegration into society.
