On Tuesday 12 July in the afternoon the Library visited the village of the Municipality of Meteora Sarakina, where the workshop “Routes to Home” was held.
In the central square of the village and under the shade of the plane tree, the children learned about the value of home and its connection with the institution of family, as it is a place of love and companionship.
Another dimension of housing is the cultural dimension. The architecture and decoration of each house expresses the aesthetics of the place and time in which it was built, of its builders and its inhabitants.
Various illustrations of houses from many parts of the world (Africa, America, Argentina) of different aesthetics and architecture such as skyscrapers to igloos were presented. The children were inspired by the images and constructed their own unique dwellings using natural and recyclable materials.
They then used the same constructions to create an imaginary neighbourhood, highlighting housing as a cell of the town or village and a great source of happiness and good health.
