On Thursday, October 24, speech therapist Ms Biboudi Zoe, and special educator Ms Liuta Eleni, gave a presentation on the problems of electronic media in speech and learning. They emphasized that long exposure to screens contributes to delayed speech, creates conditions of social isolation and affects their physical and mental skills.
Attendees then completed a questionnaire on their children’s exposure to the internet and electronic media, which triggered a dialogue about the extent to which parents and educational institutions could set more boundaries to children’s access to the Internet.
Finally, it was expressed that it is important to motivate the child to embark on activities that do not involve technology and in which the whole family is encouraged to participate. It makes sense for kids to turn to the “easy solution” of the computer when they don’t have fun with anything else, so we have to offer solutions that are just as fun.
