On Tuesday, January 24, the speech of the Assistant Professor of Mineralogy – Petrology of the Agricultural University of Athens, Dr. Giannis Baziotis regarding the search for space materials in meteorites from Antarctica. Dr. Baziotis, one of 8 scientists chosen in 2017 by NASA for a mission to Antarctica, took the audience on a tour of the world of meteorites, talked about their importance and significance for humanity and how they help us understand our solar system.
Afterwards, Mr. Baziotis spoke about his experience in Antarctica, the most inhospitable place on the planet and at the same time the best natural “trap” for meteorites, he referred to the difficult living conditions and his passion for research and collecting rare minerals. Finally, the public had the opportunity to observe fragments of meteorites and discuss with the professor about the evolution of life on our planet.
