On the morning of Wednesday 24 August, the workshop “Traditional Routes” took place, which delighted our young friends, as the theme of the workshop was the art of weaving. The aim of the workshop was to introduce the children to the process of weaving and to develop their imagination and creativity.
Initially, there was a reading of the extract “Vlachopoula talks to the children” from the KE 2022 stimulus book “The High Mountains” followed by a discussion about the wool being processed to make yarn and eventually clothes, bedding etc. The children then learned about the myth of Arachne, this extraordinary weaver, and her punishment by the goddess Athena for her pride, and then watched a video of a 3D representation of a domestic loom, learning about its components and how it works.
Finally, they made their own knitted bracelets using the Kumihimo technique and were thrilled with the result, as it was their own creation!
The next workshop of the Summer Reading and Creativity Campaign will take place on Thursday, September 1 at 12:00 pm.
