On Tuesday, December 12, the tribute was held to the great Greek writer Vassilis Vassilikos, who “passed away” recently, leaving behind a huge cultural legacy.
The audience was presented with information about the life and work of the beloved author, his studies, awards, as well as his political career. Reference was made to texts and books that became symbols of struggles, freedom and truth. Excerpts of the author’s interviews with Costas Gavras, who brought Vassilis Vassilikos Z’s iconic work to the big screen, were screened.
Attendees expressed opinions about his writing activity, his writing style, and the social and political issues from which he draws his themes.
The prize-winning Greek author, one of the most famous worldwide, was one of the ten most translated Greek authors. He had written novels, short stories, plays and poetry. His books have been translated into 33 languages, including Braille. The novel Z was adapted to the cinema by the director Kostas Gavras, winning international awards with the title of the same name.
Many thanks the public who honored the memory of the beloved author with their presence.
