A special and very beloved author was the Library’s guest at the meeting of the of the Penitentiary Book Club, Mrs. Eleni Priovolou.
Ms. Priovolou spoke about her need to express herself through literature and shared with the members experiences from her life and her writing career. The members discussed with the author about her work “In life early in the night”, which was the theme of the meeting, and expressed opinions, thoughts and feelings, while they were impressed by the lyricism and poetry of her speech. The plot of the book, which takes place in Athens and Lebanon, fascinated the members and they asked the author to talk about her trip to Beirut and describe the social conditions there. The multifaceted narrative, the recounting of events, the reference to social contrasts, the smells and colours of the East drew the members into a “wandering” through Lebanon’s contemporary history.
The author’s extroversion and positive aura created an optimistic atmosphere among the members, while she passionately and honestly referred to the concepts of “freedom” and “justice” and the importance of these two words in her own worldview.
We are very grateful to Mrs. Priovolou for the constructive discussion and for accepting our invitation, as well as to Kastaniotis Publications for donating the copies to the club members.
